Irony...Here,There, Everywhere....

The last 3 months of my life were invested with full dedication to unleash a few new chapters. And maybe that pain staking dedication has finally helped me out to be at peace today, when Bangalore is all drenched in heavy showers. And perhaps it is that peace which has let me pen down words, an all time favourite escape from the material.
Am I scribbling anything special today? Anything intended to go viral?

Well the answer is NO as well as a bit of YES.

NO because whatever I am going to pen down today surrounds a quite common yet surreal and boring life, a life taken for granted. YES because I feel it is high time for us to grow beyond the barricades of the unreasonable acceptance.
So buckle up for the ride is going to be way bumpy.

I am listening to “Lovely” by Billie Eilish from the web series 13 Reasons Why Season 2, perhaps the sole reason for me to write down something substantial.  I just finished watching Season 2 today, beginning with a sense of revenge, expecting that this season might show up the punishment inferred upon the culprits who were responsible for Hannah Baker’s suicide. To those who haven’t watched the show or about to watch the same, I am sorry for the spoiler, but nothing happened as expected. The culprit walked the shame with his head held high, being a rich brat; he had no sense of remorse. I was angry as to why was he not sentenced to jail or probably killed by anyone that mattered. Well it was my judgemental mind that pronounced a judgement over one side of the coin. However the other side proved me wrong. The picture of Hannah being a victim was always clear to me but what if she wasn’t one? What if it was just the same old Karma that came back haunting, a past where she was held responsible for bullying and harassing a girl from another school? What if the juveniles who raped her (both physically and mentally) were facing a hostile adolescence? Why didn’t this matter to me at all? Who was wrong? Hannah? The other juveniles? Or me (the Third Person) who preferred to be one sided?

June 8th 2018, a dark day in the history of Assam. It all began with a video going viral where a villager was seen taking pride in inflicting pain on the poor souls. As per news, Nilotpal Das, 29, a sound artiste and Abhijeet Nath, 30, a businessman were coming back from Kangthilangso, a picnic spot in Karbi Anglong, on June 8, when the SUV they were driving was stopped at Panjuri by a group of villagers who pulled them out and thrashed them on the suspicion of being child kidnappers. Now here is what happened after that. Within seconds, my live feed was full of distress calls and hate speeches. I won’t deny a fact that while watching the video; I was filled with anger to retaliate. This came along with a support all across the state of Assam in the form of hatred against the entire district. How savage and uneducated can those people be that they didn’t even let visitors of their own state to withstand their perimeters? But as minutes went by so did hours the realisation kicked in. Why was I blaming the entire community due to a heinous crime of the (as identified) accused named Alphajoz Timung. Who gave me the right to call them savage when we people decided to lynch down the people of their community? How could I call them educated when we did nothing except making Committees after Committees for their so-called upliftment? How could I even think of taking action against them when I failed to make the rest of the country realise that something has happened in my state? The biggest irony was the fact that except for a few puny efforts of certain news channels and social media, India remained ignorant of North East as always.

The last quarter of 2018 saw Elections in Karnataka. Here is how I relate my life with it. Working 5 days a week, I travel to office on a regular path of Whitefield trafficked roadways. Paying a whooping amount on food, water, lodging and transportation, all I get is only a good weather, rest all inundated with ill managed traffic, improper sanitations, pot holes and unchecked drillings everywhere. Metro construction is worsening up things to a different degree. Now elections were held on May 12th, 15th was the day of results with a hopeless no-majority to any of the political parties. BJP being the single largest party gets a chance to form the government, Congress and JD(S) shouts seeking for justice as to what happened in Manipur and Goa. Congress manages to hide all its MLAs until 19th May, the floor test, and as expected on that day at 4 PM, Yeddyurappa says “I will not face confidence vote; I am going to resign”. Finally a coalition government kicks in against the wishes of the people but then who cares about them.  Meanwhile in the game of the musical chairs, the Internet was on meme laughter.  In all these drama we forgot to see a state of financial crisis among the farmers due to three consecutive droughts? What did I gain out of these? Did my problems come down? What went wrong with the elections? Was BJP/Congress/JD(S) at fault? Or was it us, who are politically ignorant of the system and take voting as an “ini mini miny moe” tale?

TAPE 4 :

Talking of the countries, oh boy there are lot of hot news coming up. Russia, America, India, China and many more to the list adding to military deals, increase/decrease of import duty tax, too many foreign trips but nothing in return, sanctions after sanctions, N Korea being a friend or foe ; a plethora of diplomatically ruptured rumours. Oh my bad, I just forgot to mention the not so important dots. How’s Syria? Well only more than half a million have been killed since the outbreak in 2011. Guess what the number is only increasing and the situation is most likely to worsen. How’s Jammu and Kashmir? Nothing much, just a few Indian soldiers and citizens were killed even though India had called for a month-long ceasefire on the occasion of Ramzan. And as expected the BJP ditched PDP, CM resigns and Governor’s rule pitches in. What is the point of so called diplomacy when we still live in the age of savages? What is point of building schools and colleges when we can’t sustain hospitals for the victims of outbreaks? Why is that being a fastest growing economy, India has failed to provide refuge to its own people (the last thing one could expect)? What have we failed as citizens? Why are we paying taxes when they aren’t reaching the right hands?

If you have successfully managed to read all the 4 tapes by now, you must have realised that all these tapes cover ironies right from an individual to a community, from one country to the entire world. These ironies break down the world in two parts: The first part comprising of the people who are so ignorant that they take everything for granted whatever comes on the way without thinking of its implications. The other part is comprised of a few who knows how to control the first. All we have done so far is to follow them blindly. There are more than just 4 ironies one can pen down, but the underlying questions remains the same
When are we going to learn from our mistakes? When are we growing up? When are we going to finally say "NO"?
